Brick sheathing is going up around the new addition at Wayside Elementary School. That addition includes five pre-kindergarten classrooms and five kindergarten classrooms constructed to form a schoolwide storm shelter. The front of that addition will have a new music room and new art room for the school. This summer a connecting link at that end of the addition will provide access to the rest of the building.
A new connecting link is already being constructed at the back end of the addition, and it includes a new special education classroom and restrooms, with another connecting link beyond that to improve flow among the multiple classroom wings of the building.
This summer the existing early childhood pods at the front of the building will be renovated into a larger library and expanded areas for offices and services. The existing library will be renovated into two classrooms, and the eating area of the cafeteria will be enlarged.
